6: Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice

Audrey is reading the Twilight series, which she admits is kinda crap, and so I got sucked into Anne Rice's vampire series, which Audrey read ages ago.

It's kinda fun, and much, much better than I expected. So. Yeah. Vampires. Good.

Edit: it occurs to me that I haven't explained why it is better than expected. I think it's because the last thing I read (and didn't note here) was most of the Harry Potter series. After that, anything written for adults is good, right?

5: Jazz Odyssey: The Autobiography of Joe Darensbourg, as told to Peter Vacher

Somewhere between the Lee Collins and Garvin Bushell bios, interest and writing wise.

I had never heard Brother Bones was a member of the Globetrotters:

Brother Bones, whose real name was Freeman Davis, was a carpenter by trade and did this bones and whistling routine as a novelty in clubs. He had been with the Harlem Globetrotters and he made that version of "Sweet Georgia Brown" which they use for their warm-up.

Some research on the web does not confirm this.

Another interesting tidbit is that Deacon Jones was a bass player who played with Armstrong at one point. I wonder whether the Louis Jordan song was inspired by him.

4: Beer, Blood & Cornmeal: Seven Years of Incredibly Strange Wrestling, Bob Calhoun

Hella amusing. Calhoun is a good writer, and his account of the late-90's SF underground/hipster/rockabilly-spin-off scene is very entertaining.
