45: The Big Bands, George T. Simon

Not a good cover-to-cover read, but I went for it nonetheless. Simon was a jazz journalist and critic, but the writing is very disappointing. The book is a decent reference work, and includes all the sweet bands I'm not (yet?) interested in.

There's some good stuff, like the chart of "Tunes played most on air" and "Best sheet music sellers" from the April, 1938 issue of Metronome.

In all, eh. I picked up Simon's Simon Says, and, though the writing is the same kind of garbage, it looks much more interesting.
